This is a website where people in favor of marriage equality can:
a.) Post letters about their reactions to Proposition 8, and
b.) Find out about what to do to make marriage equality happen here in California.
If you'd like to know more about either of the above, then read on:
(also, you can read the Frequently Asked Questions, or the theory behind PostcardsFromThe8)
-----------------------------
Dear friend,
After a week of trying to figure out what to do about Prop. 8, I decided to do something simple.
I sat down and wrote a letter.
I wrote it to a fellow who lives just down the street from me. He gave almost $200 in order to make sure that gay people won’t be able to get married in this state ever again. I wrote to him because he is my neighbor, and I felt I had to share what I had on my mind with him.
I wrote a letter, and in writing that letter I discovered (a) just how angry I really was, and (b) how I could turn that anger to something productive.
So you know what I did? I did not mail the letter -- instead I shared it with everyone I knew, and asked them to write one too.
And you know what happened when they wrote their letters? They got angry too.
Angry enough that they wanted to do something to make marriage equality happen, as soon as possible, here in California.
Angry enough that they wanted to share their letters with their friends.
And so I thought, what if we got as many people as possible to write letters?
What if we could gather all those letters up, publish them as a book?
What if we could sell that book, and use the money to fund the next campaign?
All of those, I hope, would make a positive difference toward achieving marriage equality in California.
So, this is my request to you: sit down and write a letter to someone in the opposition. Keith Olbermann did it, and you should too.
If you are willing to share you letter with the world, please send your letter to: PostcardsFromThe8@gmail.com (if you're so inclined, then include the "tags" you'd like attached to it; this allows other readers to navigate to like-minded letters)
If you're old-school, send it to: PostcardsFromThe8, P.O. Box 188814, Sacramento CA, 95818.
The point is to say what this election meant to you. To take what’s in your heart and write it down. And then turn it into something good – a way to make marriage equality happen here, in California, as soon as possible.
Write a letter. It'll make a difference.
Best regards,
Bayliss J. Camp

If same sex marriage is banned as a religious issue, then why is the state involved?
If I am a non-religious heterosexual, then why do I get states rights for a religious act?
Marriage is between individual people. We are all equal. We should all have the same rights.

Kudos on your work. I have been involved w/ organizations like HRC. It takes many for a movement. May love prevail.

It is so important that people who are committed to be together should have legal rights as partners. Please make this happen!

Dear Everyone,
Love is love.
Love is real, whether it's man + man, woman + woman, or man + woman.
Let it be, let it be free, let it run deep.
Love is real, love can heal, love can save the planet if we open our hearts & minds.
Bliss.

My wife and I believe that marriage equality is a human right that all deserve. Marriage by GLBT couples does not threaten us or our 43-year marriage & the good life it has meant to us.

It's a wonderful thing to be able to commit to someone, irrespective of gender, creed or race. Life is precious, so make the most of it while you can. It feels good to make the effort with your loved one and it will be returned to you...
Happy days,

My friends Will and Matt are a couple out in San Fran. Back when I was just starting to date Betsy, now my wife, she "took me home to meet the family" (Will+Matt). They loved me and felt that we made a good couple.
Now the two are engaged, and rightfully so.

I heard about your efforts and I wish you the best of luck. I've never understood why the inability of same sex relationshiops to elope even exists. It seems pretty ridiculous for anyone to view it as problematic when the intimacy of any relationship is so far separated from a general public sphere of a community. I think this inequality is simply representative of an unequal respect, arbitrarily and wrongly demonstrated by something that should be setting examples of how to join people within a community, not the opposite.
All the best,
Matt

You must allow churches to follow their beliefs.
If you exclude a requirement, or state that nothing in this proposition shall require churches, etc. to practice other than their beliefs, opposition would be cut in 1/2.
Good luck.

When love is suppresed we all lose community.
When is love is supported, we all are touched by it.

Everyone is equal in the end. I don't think anyone should be discriminated against.
Freedom for all.

If hate has no boundaries, as is apparently so, then certainly love should be free of restrictions as well.
With love, Beautiful

The course of true love never did run smooth.
However, in time love conquers all. Prop. 8 will be defeated.

I can see absolutely no reason why 2 people who love one another & don't necessarily want to procreate, should not be allowed to marry. It seems de-volved.
So, hi anyway. Lots of love,
